CHAPTER 1 -
The Porch in The Wonderland of Light and Shadow

The night sky is the key point for presenting the Porch in the Wonderland of Light and Shadow. Wander through the corridor dotted with the shadows cast by the mountains and the sea and feel this fertile and energetic land of Yilan with the patterns delineated by the flowing interplay of light and shadows. And, as time goes by, the porch of light and shadow will fade into the passage of time.
Participants are invited to the wonderland of light and shadow through "Perpetual Records – Facade Projection," an exhibit of a Hong Kong art team named XCEPT, considered the starting point to enter the story. With 5G technology, the memories of participants are visualized and projected on a large wall surface, which is like opening a huge porch of light and shadow to lead people into the wonderland of light and shadow.

EXHIBIT INTRODUCTION

The convergence of all things stems from the interconnection of individuals; however, the existence of each consciousness mutually influences and learns from one another. Through intangible connections, information, emotions, and energy are transmitted, collectively constructing an informational field beyond the individual. "Perpetual Records" materializes the intangible concept of collective subconsciousness, weaving it into an immortal record by exploring the finite to comprehend the infinite. "Perpetual Records" creates a transcendent realm of crystalline fractal world, where irregular geometric fragments intertwine, delineating the intricate flows of energy and frequency patterns within the collective subconscious. The entire experience is divided into two parts, the facade projection and the infinity mirror room, inviting viewers to embark on a gradual introspection of their own universe. The facade projection serves as a carrier of collective memory, containing various energies and vibrations within its abstract contours. It takes inspiration from the concept of a portal, guiding and transporting viewers into a realm of unknown. The fractal world in the artwork transcends the limitations of time and space, and when gazed upon, one can sense the pulsation of life within it. Like a living sculpture, it possesses its own vitality. AI randomly extracts collective data from the viewers within the space, transforming it into corresponding text or colors, which are reflected upon the crystalline fractal world on the wall. By weaving together ever-changing light and the interplay of colors, an illusory atmosphere is created. Viewer participation and interaction cause the visual composition of the artwork to constantly evolve and transform every day, collectively constructing an informational field beyond the individual. The artwork will guide viewers to explore their connection with the universe and the commonalities shared with others.

CHAPTER 2 -
The Forest of Phantom Journey

Passing through the porch and slowing down our pace, you will realize that you are entering the mysterious "Forest of Phantom Journey!" Different imaginations towards light and shadow will be unveiled by shuttling within reality and illusion. With the guide of soul fish, the sight of gatherings of butterflies dancing among the flowers and the dynamic beauty of life is right before your eyes. "Soul Fish," an exhibit from a famous Taiwanese generative artist – Che Yu Wu, as the beginning of the story, leads participants to shuttle through the mountains and woods constructed by shadows to seek their own eternally existing soul fish. Then, participants will run into an exhibit named "Zendō" by Ke Jyun Wu, a new media artist. Seeing flowers and trees flourishing in the artworks, the connection between people and the land will be rebuilt. Art and digital artworks can be created in real-time via 5G technology. People can experience the real-time algorithm in person, which combines 5G's characteristics of high data speeds and low latency, presenting the atmosphere of natural ecology. It is like wandering around Yilan's mountains and sea to experience the wonders of nature, and is also a wonderful way to show respect for Yilan's abundant natural resources.

CHAPTER 3 -
The Tapestry of Indigenous Melody

Passing through The Forest of Phantom Journey and going with the mysterious music, "The Tapestry of Indigenous Melody" will be presented where people can find their origin. The story of art and the land is depicted in-depth under the interplay of lights and shadows with the unique music blended with layered memories of indigenous people. This is an enchanting journey of people tracing roots which guides people into the circuit filled with memories of the land. In this journey, people can feel the connection between nature's bountiful gifts and their hometown. The large woven fabric soaring above the mountains is an artwork named "Between Dreams and Dreams" by Eleng Luluan, an indigenous female artist in Taiwan. People are invited to link and weave their memories into a story to respond to the imagination of the connection between humans and the land and to experience the nurturing embrace of Mother Earth. Every song from the distance is like the message from the land and every breath is the connection to nature. Furthermore, this enigmatic melody is intricately depicted in "Nature's Pulse," an artwork from a Taitung art team named "ufa," guiding us to discover our inner origins.

A4 | 《Nature's Pulse》

ARTIST
ufa (Taiwan)

ufa is an electronic music group from Taitung composed by Cheng Wen, a music producer, and Zhang Sulin (mic.usay.monari), a singer. Their music is mixed with numerous kinds of elements, such as world music, experimental music, electronic music, and psychedelic music, making the music of ufa hard to classify into a specific kind of electronic music. mic, the main vocalist of ufa, combines her pure ritualistic and ethnic mystic voice with a deep and mesmerizing element of electronic music to create a mystical, profound, and emotionally rich conscious imagery. With their music, it leads people to deeply explore the boundary between consciousness and reality.

EXHIBIT

The cycle and mystery of nature constantly evolve in the breath of all creatures. Sometimes it changes dramatically, and sometimes slowly. Rituals in life continue to occur all along, manifesting the “magic” hidden in nature. This kind of magic is neither witchcraft nor supernatural power in the traditional sense; instead, it is life itself, the detailed network that link us and nature. With the technical support of Ambisonic as its foundation, the artwork “Nature’s Pulse” discusses the relationship between humans and nature. Nature, all creatures, ethnic, and technology are inherently and organically integrated. A dual-channel audio system is used to explore consciousness, spirituality, mysticism, and peace, leading to a deep conversation between oneself and the entire existence. It also reflects the contradictions and conflicts among nature, others, and oneself. It not only reveals the confusion and quest between nature and others, but also reveals the confusion and quest toward oneself. Although hurt may be caused, nature’s power always brings new hopes and opportunities. Power can be gained from these natural changes, and eventually outside and inner selves are linked. It is also expected that music can rouse people’s pursuit of natural peace, reassessment of the wars, and further imagination and construction of a peaceful world. This is a belief and an expectation for a peaceful world.

CHAPTER 4 -
The Interactive Space-time

Here is the last part of the wonderland – The Interactive Space-time. In here, memories will be a part of the wonderland. In this dreamscape, any kind of creation can be realized and transformed. Recording the sensations of freely roaming in this wonderland, the long-buried memories will be present in the form of ink wash with traces of light and shadow. The mirror house that carries memories casts a dazzling and dynamic interplay of light and shadow, producing some mysterious symbols to blur the boundary between reality and virtuality. At entering "The Interactive Space-time," the visitors also become a precious treasure in Yilan's memory. It is almost the end of the wonderland of light and show. "Perpetual Records – Infinity Mirror Room," an exhibit of XCEPT, makes every audience a part of the artwork via 5G technology. XCEPT combines real-time learning and analysis of AI to process an abstract imagination of some data from humans, such as emotions, appearances, and memories to create an infinite space in a crystal-like mirror house crystallizing collective memories. At the same time, in "Type Space: Draw," an exhibit made by Futa Kera, the behavior of communication is recorded by typing down the feelings towards this journey in the wonderland of light and shadow. Those words will be transformed into an ink-wash landscape-like imagery to become a unique traveling footprint for each individual.

It captures and records every thought, language, action, and even the various energies of emotions, constantly generating and transforming in each passing moment. Through the interplay of repetition and change, infinite possibilities are refracted. Through the collective information of the viewers within the space, coupled with real-time learning by artificial intelligence (AI), the artwork responds to environmental stimuli and perceives viewers’ physical characteristics and emotions. AI then randomly extracts and analyzes the data, allowing viewer participation to not only alter the visual composition of the artwork, such as colors, forms, movement speed, and angles but also enabling interactive engagement within the space. This interactive process transforms the participation of individuals into symbols created with sacred geometric elements, displayed within the artwork. Different perspectives from various angles allow viewers to personally experience and interpret its meaning. Through intangible connections, this journey guides viewers beyond the confines of the senses, encouraging profound contemplation of life and existence from a heightened perspective.

EXHIBIT

Words will be saved in the virtual world during internet communication; however, the communication behavior itself will disappear. In order to capture these missing behaviors, technological power is used in artworks to collect information such as the location of keyboard keys, display location of screen characters and the timing of keystrokes. Through generative algorithms, we visualize the translation and transform behaviors into trajectory images, so these communication behaviors are able to display the messages in another form.
